Helen Hage Freeman
Bio
Helen Hage Freeman has been involved in the arts in the Tri-State area for 42 years - directing, acting, producing and working backstage.
Helen taught for 37 years in the public schools teaching Theatre, Speech, and Debate. She was recruited three times throughout her teaching career, first to Rowan Middle School in Morehead, then to Capital High School in Kanawha County, and finally to Huntington High School, where she spent her last 17 years. At each of these schools, she was blessed to have award winning programs. In 2023, she retired. This has allowed her to enjoy herself with friends and family.
At the same time Helen was teaching, she founded and ran, along with her friend Patti Shaver and her husband, Huntington Outdoor Theatre. This theatre brought shows to Huntington’s Ritter Park Amphitheatre for 20 years. The shows attracted at least 700 to 1,000 people per night with shows running 9 to 12 nights per summer. This legacy is carried on by Mary Smirl with the Theatre HART.
Helen is thankful to all those who have supported her endeavors throughout the years, which have allowed her to touch the lives of many, young and old.
